Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Samplitude fix for GDTRFB jam, RFK Stadium, June 10, 1973

Sunday jam with Merle Saunders, Dickey Betts, and Butch Trucks at RFK Stadium 73-06-10 GDTRFB was cleaned up some by Charlie Miller et al to 9:34 on a new post for this historic show. Recently, I've appealed passionately to get GDTRFB fixed up. Short story, on my third re-work attempt today -- at getting the cassette reels of my AUD tape of this show transplanted into a surrogate cassette housing -- I fixed the stiction trouble I was having. Tape feeds good now. Spliced the tape. Cranked up my ancient Nakamichi 550. Old tape plays good. Crappy Memorex cassette tape, no dolby, no chromium dioxide tape. Been in my glove box for years, temps ranging from -30 to 150 degrees in the sun. Sorry. Tape packed like shit on my take-up reel. Edge damage here and there. But kinda decently packed on supply side. It's pulling tape nicely. Even though it's a bit stretched and partly wrinkled. Wall of Sound is great. Sound engineers sure did nail the Wall this weekend.

After meeting you guys and hanging around here, I finally dinked into the bt world for my first time the other night. Arbuthnot just put up that Europe '72 post. Tigerbolt gave us a heads-up, vectoring me to Jerome's. Direwolf invited me there. You guys put up with my posts here. AshesRising has linked to some fine stuff. Then I put myself up to this challenge. Plus, I put my foot in my mouth. I was Dead-wrong about the great crescendo that I said was lost in this reel flip/change issue in GDTRFB.

The "great crescendo" I had mentioned earlier, as being lost, is at the end of NFA, just before the GDTRFB track, because that's the way is was cut. My bad, turns out, is good. Be sure to listen to this magical moment building around 10:45 into NFA. I didn't exactly pay attention to everything going on. I've never been wrong in my life before this. Uhmmmm, except once before: I thought I was wrong about something... I was wrong about that. There's so much music in my library. I got crossed up. Could be a dyslexic 420 mishap type cross-up? Plus, I was at this show and taped it. Had planted memories.

So I browsed my warez stuff real quick and installed Samplitude. I listened to Charlie Miller's new GDTRFB flac, then I listened to my Nakamichi cassette deck. I recorded a Wav of what was missing. Then I layed it in. It's very, very close to perfect. Not bad, sounds decent for a relative quickie. Hope you all enjoy my effort. My treat.

Wharfrat73 said the new Charlie Miller stuff is up here now, and linked it for us. Look at the end of the Charlie Miller RFK show thread, posted by tigerbolt.

So, d4t05 - Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad on this newly "patched" one is 9:34, but it still drops out at 6:40 due to the reel/flip change. I layed in the lost 1:02 content right at 6:40. Fixed it! My new GDTRFB track is 10:36. I'm just going to put it up here. I gotta believe I'm doing the right thing here.

Here's the Flac > Wav > Samplitude fix > Wav > Shn and Vbr Mp3 for d4t05 - Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad -> for you. Enjoy. It was fun. Sweet!

This Forum isn't accepting this post with my files attached. Shorten file is 67 MB. Vbr_Mp3 file is 14 MB. How should I get my new track to everybody? Or get it posted with the new '73 RFK show on LMA? Just trying to do my part. Thanks.

Nice audience recording. Your patch would sound a lot better if it didn't change sources so harshly. Try doing a crossfade. It's a lot smoother.

I know. This was my 1st time capturing from my Nakamichi 550 into my GT5238E Gateway pc. 1st time using Samplitude. I can re-do GDTRFB with crossfades. I'm getting some special tunes out right now. Trying to do some pay back for everyone. and get on the right Forums

thanks for all your time and efforts, Charlie.

I just did these 2...

I patched the GDTRFB with an alternate sbd source. The fixed tracks are going to jeromesplace right now. You will need the new d4t05 though the end of show, ffp, md5 and txt files.

I have an alternate sbd source that I am using to patch the reel flip in GDTRFB. It'll be circulated tomorrow.
